Well, someone asked me about the cost of the motor. Honestly, I never stopped to count. I made the decision and just did it. I estimated about $12K....well, here's the breakdown for you.

intake 1100
Throttle body 450
Oil Pan 240
Shortblock 3500
Cam 350
lifters 130
Flexplate 100
Heads 1500
Rockers 300
Pushrods 0
Gaskets 250
Timing set $50
7970
Labor $700
$8,670
Install $1,000
$9,670

Plus I had the Trans stuff like the new pan, gasket, cooler...probably another $200. So at this point, about $10K

I'm sure there's something else I missed, just not sure what.

If I think about it, I'll let you know.

Remember, the labor part is only $1700 of the build, that's turn key in and out.

I had a brand new Melling water pump. Flow Kooler Water pump, push rods, and some odds and ends...so that's why they aren't there.

I forgot to add the chip tune at $500 from TPIS

Also, the porting on the Miniram, which will be a couple hundred.

So it's getting close to $12K.....

Did the whole short-block come direct from Dart? Or built by a machine shop?

Who are you having port your mini ram? You are having it ported to fit a 1206 gasket correct? I would like to know the total cost of this job, and how it fits when your done.

I'll let you know. The shop who is building the motor has a guy who ports for them. It's a simple gasket match to the 1206, nothing complicated.

That's a lot of fkn money now that I'm staring at it.....dammm

I sold about $3500 worth of stuff off my car to make some of it up.

Not enough it seems.

Couple hundred is reasonable to port a1205 mini to a 1206. SPent a good deal of time on a 1206 last night. THe whole area around the injector area can be a time consumer depending. plenty of meat though, you can get as carried away as you have time for.

12k isn bad for your build at all, I wasted that much on a 350 biuld years ago.

That's turn key, installed. Plus, like I said I sold a lot of parts too...just trying to rationalize....

All forged internals. Scat crank, Scat rods, Mahle pistons.

Sounds like a good deal. I just can't bring myself to pay someone to do this stuff for me. Kind of takes the fun out of it.

If you followed his threads about the soap opera with his old engine you will see that he has probably had all the fun he can stand.

Right John?

Right John?
Not exactly the case, but yes, a factor.

This isn't my first vette, and this isn't my first motor. I have the badge of honor to say I've built a motor or two before, boat motors, car motors, and I've "been there done that".. I wanted to finally do a FI car, which is why I did the first build, and yes, the rod spun, but for all intents and purposes, The car ran great when it was done up until the spun bearing. Spun it up to 6300 K and it kept going. It really did run great.

The other issue is TIME. I have two kids, 5 and 8. Soccer, Dance, School Stuff, all that crap is time consuming.

I am paying $1700 in labor so I can drive the car TODAY. I am paying to HAVE A WARANTEE. I am paying to spend time with the kids. If I took this on and did it "part time" it would be MONTHS before it was done. ONe thing my son likes to do is go in the Memorial Day parade with the other Corvettes, this year I missed it. So, next year I won't.

THAT is why I am not doing it myself. But yes, MK, that last episode further solidified my decision.

Yeah, I'm worried about a hypothetical 30 HP BEST CASE AND UNPROVEN. So if you're asking if I'd lay a few hundred dollar bet on maybe getting 20-30 HP, well, I think you know my answer. 550, 570, 600, whatever.....it will all put a **** eating grin on my face, and at the end of the day, that's all I want. .2 seconds here or there, who GAF....

I think the initial build is good!!!!! But I will say, I built alot of motors, including port jobs, and I think no matter what you do, even if you're almost entirely satisfied.....the first time you get beat.........you'll improvise! at least I did.
