Default Hedman quality?

I'm looking into headers/HFC's/Catback, and I've got the Cats an Ct-back figured out, but I'm still unsure about headers? I know some of you run Hedman, but all I see are bad reviews online of them.

Super Comps seem too expensive, although I will pay it if they're that much better. I'm just looking for a good set of Equal Length headers that won't rust

Depends on which one you buy. Get coated headers not painted. Painted headers, especially in the areas where salt is used, are not going to last. Any material including stainless will eventually rust. Check out Hedman Elites at Summit.

I thought Heddman only used 1-5/8 primaries.... Arent 1-3/4 primaries at least the ideal ones?

No, not necessarily. It depends on the total engine output and the exhaust system behind the headers. For most street motors the 1 5/8" primaries are ideal.

I have a stock L98 with a ZZ4 cam. I am building a 408 SB to be an extreme street/road race engine, but that wont be done for a couple years while I save up for parts. Do you think I would be ok with a cheap set of headers with 1-5/8 primaries for now? Then I will put the 1-3/4 ones on the better engine...

Sure, as long as they aren't shorties. IMO shorties are a waste of money. With your current engine 1 5/8 primaries are perfect. Also they are easy to work around.

Thanks! I agree on the shorties. They do next to nothing..

I've been running my coated Hedman headers for about 4 years and no problems at all.

Same here. I've had the coated elite's on my car now for 4 years and haven't had any problems. No leaks and the coating still looks like new. The only problem I had was I bought ARP 12 pt header bolts and a couple of the bolt holes were so close to the header pipes that I couldn't get a wrench or socket on them so I had to use socket head bolts on those two.

I noticed your signature says no frisbee.. Can I take that off the water pump with no adverse effects?

It's on the front of the PS pump 1/2" socket.

Doing this wont make the water pump unbalanced or anything?

I removed the frizbee from my 89 with no problem, some have said they get a slight vibration when there AC kicks on without the frizbee but they are few and far between. If you want to give it a try just remove the 4 half inch nuts, and you may need to add 2 or 3 washers on each stud but this is different depending on what year you have, some need no washers at all. I don't think it adds much HP but it can't hurt getting all that weight off the front of your water pump...WW

Frisbee was removed about 5 years ago..no problems at all. Follow the advise above, it's pretty straight forward, I even did it.. It is a heavy piece of metal.

Ok, so just put washers on the bolts where the frisbee would normally be?

Yep. It won't add any HP, but it will free up a pony or two that you already have that are wasted trying to spin that heavy thing.

Yeah im not expecting any huge gain, i just figured it can only be extra weight to spin up.

Ah what the hell? I removed the 4 nuts and screws, and it wont come off. I tapped it with a rubber mallet very lightly, but nothing. it wont budge. Am i missing something?

What nuts and screws? There should just be 4 machine bolts.

that's what i meant. I was in a hurry typing.

I finally got them off, i had to beat the Frisbee with a rubber mallet for like 20 minutes, but i got it off, and i replaced the bolts.
