I am out of town but from some reports I am getting my 92 LT1 went under water from hurricane IKE... I am insured but my question is what are some of the precautions I should take before trying to start... Anyone had any experience with this type of mishap... Also, anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with the insurance company..
That sucks... glad to hear your alright, sorry about the car. While I have never had this happen to a car, I have sunk a snowmobile in a pond. Personally I would drain, flush, and /or replace all the fluids in the car. Pull the plugs to get any/all water out of the cylinders. Prime the motor to get oil as many places as you can. If the entire car was underwater that could be h#ll on the electrical system. I wouldn't be suprised if you have electrical problems for a long time. Hope everything ends up alright for you. Good luck!

Try to get them to total the car. If you have pictures showing the condition that may help. Don't accept the first offer. Go up the management chain.
Sorry, glad you're OK. The car in my opinion is toasted....the engine and body could be saved, but the entire electrical system would have to be replaced. Get after the insurance company to total it.
I am sure the insurance company is going to total it. All the trim in the car that can hold water will have to be replaced and every square inch washed. If not, it will smell like sewage forever. Electrical system is toast. The cost to recover the car exceeds its book value and the insurance company wants the lower cost!
Don't know yet how high it got into the car... Reports are from people who can see it but can't get to it... Hope to know sometime Sunday if they let me return home... Not looking forward to dealing with the insurance company for both home and car...
Very sorry to hear it, but glad you're OK. Cars are replaceable, people aren't.
Like everyone said, if the car got any appreciable water in it, it will be a total loss. And you won't want it back.....rust, electrical demons, odd smells....it would never be the same.
And I know fighting with the insurance company will be a long, drawn out process....but if there is any silver lining to this particular cloud, C4 prices are in the tank these days. It's a buyers market....you can probably get another C4 for a reasonable amount of money.
Really sorry to hear 'bout your vette.
Glad you are OK.
Maybe after the ins compensates, you can buy it back for cheap, completely strip it and make it a track car?
Let us know what happens.
Sorry about your car but it is just a car, it is good to read that you got out of town. I'm sure that the insurance company will be fair and expeditious with your claim, they will have their hand's full down there.

Sorry to hear about your losses; looks like 'yall took it pretty tough down there. Good luck to you and your Family.
I used to live in El Lago a number of years ago. Pretty and nice area.
I have a friend who had a 79 for almost 30yrs that got wet with Katrina, salt water and all. He bought it back from the insurance company with hopes of restoring it. Never even got started. Now, he is trying to sell it for parts or whatever.
I think I would get all the money possible from insurance and move on.
As others have said, you can get another C4 pretty reasonable now.

No this is not mine, but I feel for them... No updates because I am in S. Tx (Brownsville) and am still not allowed home(no water/electric)... Getting too many different reports to say anything right now... Kemah Boardwalk (major local attraction) 75% destroyed... I live half mile from it... My condo is top floor, no water damage but roof may be gone...
