So i found this turbo kit made by HP Performance and its supposed to be sick! What have yall heard about these kits? They seem like a pretty simple install.
Yea they have three levels of kit prices are listed and everything all you do is call tell them what kit you want and your year model and the send it to you or you can take it to them to be done.
I have had the HP kit on my '85 for 2 1/2 to 3 years. HP installed the kit. The kit is fine but their attention to detail in the installation was lacking. I had to have a number of small items redone/repaired. For example, they broke the oil dipstick, did not have spark plug wires tied out of the way of headers, the tune was not correct, etc. In addition they took a year and half to complete the install.
None of this is as simple as most expect or want it to be. Maybe it is easier on newer models, but getting the tune right and finding a computer program to work with the older cpu was difficult. It is not just a bolt on and go. The tuning, ignition and cooling systems all had to be upgraded. Expect more costs than just the kit.
That being said, mine has run fine for 2 1/2 years. I have driven it around town and long distances. I recently drove it 650 miles in a day. When you want the extra power it is there. If not, it drives like normal.
If you want to do it, I would make sure they actually have the complete kit to ship upon payment, that you or a mechanic do the install and you start looking now for the program and equipment to complete the tune.
