Thanks guys for checking in. First things first, the family is fine, which is truly the important thing. My home was directly in the eye of Ike. I lost part of the roof of my house, some internal water damage, lots of downed trees and fences, and a limb went through the new roof on the garage extension, agggghhhh.
The storm was very devastating to our area (I have some pics I will post shortly). We have no utilities (water is non-potable, electricity out, just got phone service, no cable, etc). I am operating on back-up power generator, and gas is a real commodity in our area. I traveled a bit this AM to get salt and shock for the pool and 16 gals of gas in storage containers.
In all of this, I found that I have a new skill, wiring up generators to power whole houses. Forget about backfeeding individual circuits, I have these really cool lugs that bolt directly to the 200A/150A mains and allows the generator to power any circuit(s) in the house. I have done several, and it seems that everyone is afraid to go into the large panel to do wiring changes.
I have a biofuels conference that I am supposed to be at tomorrow, so I am packing up the family and we are getting out of here. It has been a long weekend.
Again, thanks for the concern. I expect to return this weekend.
Aaron
Thank god you are all ok. Sorry to hear about the damage but it sounds like you are with minimal damage compared to what I've heard about others in that area. Good luck with everything and thanks for keeping us posted.
