Default Can a bad optispark cause a Code 41 or Code 42?

My car was running like crap, so I decided to install a new optispark, water pump, ignition control module, coil, plug wires and plugs.

First time I tried, it started, and ran rather well. The second time, however, I got no spark after several attempts. I cleared the codes, and it started again. But, again, when I tried to restart it, I got the DTC 42 or 41 again. Again, I cleared the codes, and it started again. Shut it off, and that was it. No spark since. I've gone through the trouble shooting steps in the FSM for both codes, and it keeps coming up with the same conclusion - bad connection, bad ICM, or bad ECM.

I have two '93's, so I took the ICM and the ECM out of the one that is running, and put it in the one that isn't. No start, again. I bought another coil - throwing money at a problem. Still, no spark. The only conclusion I can come to is that the opti is bad.

So, can a defective opti cause a DTC 41 or 42?

Thanks, as always,

Stephen

I'm not sure. The weird thing with my Optispark was when it crapped out, there were no codes. It was like the revs wouldn't climb past 2000rpm or so, making me think it was a fuel pump problem, but it was actually the opti.

Is it a code 41 or 42? 42 could be the ICM, ECM, or the wiring in-between. Doesn't sound like an optispark problem. Maybe a bad ICM out of the box?
