I'm collecting parts for a cam install. I received this Friday. I've heard people had good luck with these. Is this a genuine GM part as advertised? I've heard horror stories of other sellers with cheap opti's. I'd like to know how long people have run one of these successfully. Is there any need to pop the cover or make modifications?
Thanks

Depends how you define "genuine GM" If you went to the dealer and bought an opti, that is not the one you would get, it would come in an AC Delco box. Well at least it used to. Delphi used to be a division of GM, it got spun off and then had its own problems including bankruptcy. While I have heard some people say that Delphi had some QC problems, I haven't seen any first hand stories of it and as the previous poster said, all comments regarding partsladi are positive. Soooo, I wouldn't hesitate to use a Delphi opti.
In 1985 General Motors purchased Hughes Aircraft and merged it with Delco Electronics to form Hughes Electronics Corporation, an independent subsidiary. In 1997 all of the aerospace and defense businesses of Hughes Electronics (Hughes Aircraft and Delco Systems Operations) were merged with Raytheon, and the commercial portion of Delco Electronics was transferred to GM's Delphi Automotive Systems business. Delphi became a separate publicly-traded company in May 1999, and continued to use the Delco Electronics name for several of its subsidiaries through approximately 2004.
Although Delco Electronics no longer exists as an operating company, GM still retains rights to the Delco name and uses it for some of its subsidiaries including the ACDelco parts division.
My guess is if you get an opti with ACDelco on the box it was made before 2004.
