Rhino Engines
Anyone have experience purchasing these motors for Rhino?
Price is right, I make them verify it's a Corvette 4 bolt main
block with the right castings numbers on the block and heads.
Appricate any Forum member comments before I pull the trigger.
EDIT: Just looked them up, so this is a factory-spec replacement? If so that's a good price...sorry I can't help you with experience with them though

1985= standard gen 1 chevy 2 bolt main block
1986= standard gen 1 chevy 2 bolt main block, add 1 piece seal, right hand dipstick
1986 1/2 = same as above, but adds aluminum heads (cast iron clones),
1987 = same as above except adds roller cam, lifters, spider, center bolt covers
1988 = same as above except better alum. head combustion chamber
1989 = 4 bolt block, roller cam, 58 cc D port heads, 1 piece seal, dished pistons, center bolt rocker covers, windage tray
1990-1991 same as 1989
If they claim it is an L98, and it has 4 bolt block, it is the latest version
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I like being able to talk to the guy who is buidling the motor and not
a salesman filling an order. Jasper and Rhino LT1's are probably great
for the money on a daily driver but apparently no one had any actual
real world experience to report. I'm not totally confident I'll get an
actual Corvette 4 bolt block since they both use the same 327 casting
number.
Rhino sounds like a basic stock rebuild. Bore hone, generic rings, bearings, etc. Are they using new valvesprings, retainers, things like that?Guess for 2k you cant expect much outside of that. Some rebuilder houses supply new parts such as those, many reuse them .

since he has had his 90 engine apart a time or two. Mick, correct me if I am wrong.
BTW, 2 bolt blocks are plenty anyway, unless you are going to spin it
to 7 or 8K. And they are actually better than the 4 bolt blocks if you
have it made into a 4 bolt w/spayed bolts and billet journal caps (from my machinist).
