In a '89 MAF tpi my scanner is reporting pretty consistent knock. Octane is at least 89, its usually 93 or so. I'll have to double check the base timing, but I was wondering;
I'm working on a methodical approach to burning prom's, starting off slow and was wondering about this ecs module upgrade (the gm pn 16038331).
I'm pretty sure I'm getting some false knock, the question is: should I get the ecs module, or should I just tune around it? Will the ecs module become redundant due to the adjustability of burning new proms, or is it an actual hardware improvement?
Took it out with a scanner hooked up (mpsi) and noticed not only was it faster, but ran smoother. Then noticed the mpg computer was not functioning so I was checking the scanner, I guess it scans in ALDL mode, so there is no knock detection and advance is set at 8^.
I think I will give this computer a try as opposed to setting the computer for ALDL mode or attempting to tune around a sensitive sensor.
