My buddy and I were working on his Dad's 88 Vette, and we pulled the frisbee off the front of the water pump, since it was in the way of the tensioner. Why did GM put that on the car in the first place?
I have seen prior posts regarding people taking them off, but never paid attention, since my 84's do not have them.
We were just wondering since we took it off, if we should put it back on.
Actually I did a search which I should have done in the first place. So to verify, it is to keep the belt on when the A/C kicks off an on or is it to reduce vibration in the engine from the A/C turning on and off?

After I had the chat with Grodon Killebrew about the frisbee I removed it from my L98 and it now serves as a large paper-weight...
Since you have an '88 I suggest you put some thick lock-washers behind the bolt heads before attaching the WP pulley.
I tossed my frisbee a few years ago. I never noticed any vibration with the ac on or off. Also the belt has never fallen off. You will pick up a hp or 2 when you remove the frisbee, some claim 10 hp.

Ok thanks for the info. We will do that today. I could have my buddy store it away with all the Bose stereo parts!
Does the LT1 have this "frisbee" on the WP as well as the L98? I may want to remove it also, although I'm scared straight of anything to do with the LT1 WP! (I know what lurks beneath it!!!!!!)
