Ok I recently bought a gtech off the internet and was wondering if I did anything wrong during the couple runs I made. Keep in mind this is not the newer unit but the one that looks like a radar detector. My best time was a 14.1 with a trap speed of 103.7. I know the g tech calculates the trap diff. than most 1/4 mile tracks but I was kind of disappointed at the 14.1. Should my car be slower on the street with street tires than on the track? I have a 1994 auto with no cats, upgraded mufflers, airfoil, cut air lid, tb bypass, maf spacer and a pcmforless tune. I have recently done a tune up but I didnt replace plugs and wires or the o2 sensors (car idles fine and didnt think it needed it) thanks for the input
i also had the gtech and yep thats about right for a lt1. i had mods close to yours and i couldnt get it over a 14.40. what gear ratio do you have in the rear? i had a 2.59 and went to a 3.45 and picked up almost 3/4 of sec. just by changing rear.
I have been to the track a lot lately and always checking out the stock LT-1s and most run in the low 14s. Some will break into the 13s but I think that is not the norm unless the car has been tuned or has headers.
ok, I just wanted to make sure this was normal... i thought the stock lt1 was supposed to run 14.1 from the factory?
neat- you said .2 slow so would that put me at a 13.9?
I also had a full tank of gas and am a novice driver, I would love to hit high 12's in the car. Looking at putting an edge tq converter in. The guy I talked to guarantees .5 in the 1/4 or he will pay for the converter. That would get me down to a 13.4 so with some slicks high 12's might be possible if I get better at driving? Oh yeah I dont know what gears came stock in my car need to find out.
Stock LT1's do usually run low 14's. Your car doesn't really have any mods, so stockish times are to be expected.
The converter won't do anything for you without tires. With a sticky tire and a new converter, a .5 ET reduction isn't out of the question.
My older G-tech was usually .2 slow, so yes that would put you at 13.9. However, I have run 2 G-tech's at the same time and come up with different results at the track, so they don't all read the same.
High 12's is pretty doable. With some drag radials, converter, and maybe some long tube headers, you would probably be dang close on a good track.
If you're looking to crack the 12's on a budget, nitrous is the cheapest and probably the easiest way to go. I managed to get into the 12's with my L98 (12.84 @ 106) with tire, gear, clutch, exhaust, and 1.6 rockers. With a small shot of nitrous I cut that to 11.99 @ 112. If you are indeed a 13.9 car now, a 100 shot of nitrous would probably put you into the high 12's.
I just thought best bang for the buck was either gears, converter or both. I like my fuel economy so I figure I will go with the converter. Even if it doesnt drop by .5 I can get my money back so thats good. Thanks for the advice!
