This problem exist on a 95 with automatic tranny if that makes a difference. Is there something within the electrical system that would cause NO IGNITION when the electric door locks are used. Example, car is parked, prior to closing drivers door the electric door lock button on the door is pushed, car is locked. Owner comes back an hour later, unlocks the passengers door with the key to allow passenger to get in, pushes the door lock button on passengers door to unlock the drivers side. Walks around the car and gets in, puts key in ignition and fuel pump comes on, all dash lights light up, but when the key is turned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happens. No key fob is used. Driver sits there and turns key on and off several times with same results. Sits there for several minutes and makes a joke out of car not starting. After about 4 or 5 minutes the key is turned again and the car cranks up and runs like a champion!!!!! What is the problem? There is an aftermarket radio in the car also. This "problem" does not happen all the time, only from time to time??????? Any recommendations ? Thanks

Vats?
Sounds like the VATS system (resistor in key and sensor in ignition switch) is disabling the starter (for 5 minutes +/- as designed) due to one or the other not properly contacting.
Either the contacts in the ignition switch are dirty or damaged, or the contacts on the key's resistor are dirty, or the key's contacts are worn down and a new key with the correct resistor code is needed.
As a test, try another key (if you have), or try cleaning the contacts on the key (pencil eraser) and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I need to clean or replace the ignition switch? I have gone out to go some where and I would get no response. I would go back into the house and get the spare key to see if in fact that was the problem and when I would get back to the car, I would check the original key just for grins and the car would crank right up, go figure???? This is an intermittent problem, I can go many months and all is great and then all of a sudden the problem will surface. I have noticed that it seems to occur more so when I am out somewhere and have locked the car and then when I unlock the car and get back in is when I get to sit there until she decides to crank, but it also happens when she has been sitting in the garage unlocked. Trying jumper cables has no affect/effect. Anyone else have a suggestion?
