have the same problem. had the computer codes read with a code 76 which is a bad accelerometer (what ever that is) your abs should be behind the drivers cargo compartment. hope this helps.
If my key is turned all of the way to start and it stays there, then my anti lock break light comes on. I have to be sure to turn the key back where it needs to be as the spring or something does not do it anymore. Not a big deal to me so I have not bothered replacing my ignition. Just an idea for you.
:seeya
That's Lateral Accelerometer and it's used to tell if the car is in a turn or going straight, it's under the radio control head mounted to the trans tunnel, it will come with a kit to install the newer style sensor inplace of the original that is there so if you get one and it doesn't look the same that's why.
Re: HELP! ANTI LOCK dash light is ON! (black86targa)
I love the ABS system and when mine went bad,it would sometimes work and sometimes not.
It would perform the "self test" every time I stopped at a light or a stop sign..turned out to be a bad wheel sensor. They get dirty and corrode into the spindles over time.
Sometimes cleaning them will help but other times theyre so bad they need to be replaced.
I replaced the faulty one and it works great. No more lights and no malfunctional ABS.
I used to drive my Vette in the snow because it was a daily driver and the ABS kept me from sliding out past stop signs and etc on back roads.
Aside from this,I think every few years the ABS sensor should be removed from the knuckles/spindles and cleaned up and some anti seize used to prevent corrosion in there.3 wheel sensors, except for one I replaced, are still original from 1986.
