Heres some food for thought for those of you who are considering a Dana 44 swap into your C4 . I have an adapter plate that allows you to use a D 36 batwing on a D 44......an added benefit is the strength that it adds to the case of the 44 being a 6061 bulkhead to keep the case from spreading
I'm not trying to start anything, I just don't understand how it adds strength. Maybe you could explain?
The case and cover are cast aluminum pieces made of 356 alloy....kinda soft relatively-wise....the adapter is CNC machined from 6061 T6 structural material and it acts the same as a bulkhead in a cylinder.....think submarine or tanker truck.....being flat instead of concave like the cover it is far more resistant to stretching or flexing and will HELP keep the rear of the case from moving in any direction in its plane which is perpendicular to the ring and pinion.....both of whom are trying to part company when loaded by the "irresponsible" actions of your right foot and maybe the left one if you have a manual trans.....sorry I got chatty there .....hope I answered your question satisfactorily
Do you still have to change the c-beam and drive-shaft in any way?
Sorry, but the thread was a little confusing on that.

Thanks
You need a D36 batwing which I assume you already have....and a D44 chunk, pumpkin,or differential without a batwing...........the adapter simply allows you to use a D36 batwing in place of the D44 wing which is not always available with the D44 diff ......complete D36s can be purchased for far less $ than a D44 batwing only
I meant to actually post to this thread and it looks like I ended up in the "C4 parts area" where you've offered them for sale! It requires "thought"!!
I had considered moving those thoughts to this thread but since they've been there for a few hours I'd say there's really not much need to move them.
It won't win any engineering awards but you seem to have "flogged" yours pretty good judging from your comments in the "for sale" post and maybe that's the "testament" to it's value!
It certainly is an "alternative"!!
I'm also into Jeeps and have a TJ Rubicon. I'm surprised that
no one has taken a steel diff cover for the conventional D-44
and added control arms and spring mount for the Vette D-44 pumpkin.
I know that bolting on steel where aluminum used to be is counter
intuitive on a Vette, but it could be one more option.
Obviously there are 100's of options.....currently this is the least expensive....
I have D44 in my 95 and yes it's expensive and yes it's worth it least ways if you have the power.
Tore up 36's ain't cheap either.
Off road u joints are a must also.
Happy Motoring !
