The first thing most people do is port your intake. This will free up easily 30-40 hp. This is the biggest restriction the CFI has.

So a 5.7 small block isn't a real engine, get real-really helpful to the OP I would have to offer this up, first:1.6-1 roller tipped rockers, single biggest bang for the buck you'll get . Very real and measurable performance gains and SOTP feel too. Porting the intake is the next step. Time consuming if ya do it yourself, but inexpensive, i do it for 200.00. Those 2 steps will put you on the threshold of a 14 flat. Then a good exhaust system and converter gets you into the 13's , thats great bang for the buck. if you don't want to tune, then the Crane 2040 and a set of good heads ,intake runner between 170-180cc will be perfect and see you deep into the 13's. All on the stock ECM. this is assuming a properly running car. Lemme know if I can be of any help.BTW , last year i drove my Crossfire from Houston to Richmond for the Corvette nats, made the semifinals and some cash, then drove all over the east coast then home. Averaged high 20's mpg hwy, and the car was dead reliable with over 120k miles-enjoy your ride!

You need to make a huge decision first before you modify your engine. Do you want to keep the crossfire setup or go carbed? To some people this is a big deal but I dont see it that way since I dont see the crossfire as true fuel injection. If you do you can expect...

-cheaper to build for power (can be done for under $1000)
-less maintanence (no computer BS)
-lower gas mileage

If you do keep the crossfire, first thing i'd do is new exhaust (long tube headers, dual exhaust) and then port the intake. After that the rest of the engine is like ever other Chevy 350, you can put a bigger cam in it, aftermarket aluminum heads, roller rockers, etc.

If it were me, i'd seriously consider doing a LS conversion. You'll get 350+ horsepower and the best fuel economy. Its not the cheapest route though.
