I need to go to some larger injectors and will need to purchase some tuning software. The LT1 Edit appears to be straight forward, but I'm still a little confused about something. Folks I've been talking to say that I will also need to purchase some scanning software. Is this true?? I thought the LT1 Edit software is a comprehensive package.
I've got a large learning curve ahead of me, but just how hard is it to tune using this software? The car runs good right now, but runs on the rich side down low and leans out on the high side. I just don't want to do any damage while tuning.
LT1 Edit is tuning only. For scanning, you'll need to buy something like AutoTap.
How easy it is depends on the person. If you understand modern fuel injection theory not to mention cars in general, it's easy. After that it's person specific. The tables that most people touch are generally self-explanatory...timing, fuel enrichment at WOT, idle speed, fan temps, etc. Other stuff is in there as well...burst knock, the VE tables, MAF table, various other factors and constants, etc.
Lots of good tutorials out there on the web.
Tuning software doesn't come with an instruction manual on how to tune, only how to load the software so brush up on your studying skills and go slow. Make a change and then log data to understand what it did.
How about Jet Dynamic Spectrum Tuner? I found it for $125 less than the LT1 edit.
I'm also looking at AutoTap for scanning. What is the difference between wideband vs other? I keep reading about it, but still not sure what this refers to.
I am OK on the computer, but my wife and probably daughter will pick up on how the software works faster than I can. Hmmmm, this might turn into a family project!!
My injectors are too small for the motor and I'm looking at 36#, so how hard is it to tune for the new injectors?

Never used the Jet tuner so I can't comment.
Wideband vs other? I've used Autotap for years and have never seen any such functionality. There are wideband o2 sensors and OEM type o2 sensors that are only accurate +/- a few percent of 14.7:1 AFR.
Tuning for new injectors takes about 5 seconds, all you do is change the injector constant. It will take longer to download the current flash file and upload the new file than make the change.
Unless you're turning in excess of 550hp at the crank, 36# injectors are waaaaaay too big.
