Default Dropping the ZF tranny... Any tips?

I have a clacking noise with the clutch pedal pressed all the way in and have researched it here as a problem with the pivot arm. Only way to fix is to move the trans back to get at the arm from what I understand. I have a trans jack lined up and will be doing it in the driveway as high up on the jack stands as I can (safely). As I understand, all I need to accomplish is the readjustment and tighening of the bolt(s) with red loctite. Will I need any parts along the way?

I used red locktite on my stud. Had a rear seal oil leak and had to use a die grinder to cut off the stud to remove the bell housing. If I used locktite again I would use the blue. Also you may find another cause of the noise when you get in there.

You won't be able to get it high enough on jackstands for the shifter to clear the underbody. There is a brace on the back of the tranny that supports the shifter. Remove the bolt that holds it in place and the shifter will pivot down giving you a tad more room.

The ZF is heavy, so be prepared.

I have a tranny jack, however, i believe it easier to get some long metric bolts, cut the heads off, and use em as studs. Than i just lift the tranny up, off my chest. No wonder why i had to have 3 discs fused in my bak? huh?

This is where the 4-ton jacks come in handy, you cna get it high enough to do what you want.

I slide mine to the rear and pull it out through the back under the gas tank, I will be doing this in a few days.

Don't forget the ZF weighs 160lbs, so be careful.............

Right in the thick of things now. Just got the C- beam off and am getting ready to pull the drive shaft. I have the trans securely strapped to the trans jack I borrowed from my bud Ericcer who used to have a killer 96.

Don't forget to support the underside/rear of the engine BEFORE disconnecting the drive shaft...

Otherwise the backward/lower tipping of the engine may cause the top/intake area of the engine to contact the firewall and damage various components that are mounted just aft of the intake manifold (e.g. sensors).

Also, when putting the cross beam back in and aligning the tranny to reconnect to the engine, found that as little as 1/2" difference in height of the tranny made a difference is getting the tranny to slide together with the engine and in getting the cross-beam back in.

Got everything apart and it all looks fine to my eyes so far (for the most part). I will start another thread in a little while with pics of all the components.
