So I am having a few problems on my 1996 C4. I was having engine misfiring probems and throwing a P0300 code. I replaced the spark plugs and wires. Everything was good for abut a week. Then in the morning i would have a very rough idle and could see a visible spark from the second plug from the top of the passenger side at the opti. I took it back to the shop and they re-tightened all the plugs at the opti. Ran great for another week, and i started it up this morning and back to square one.
Opti is about 2 years old, but did have quite a bit of water spilled on it due to a leaking water pump. I have since replaced the water pump. Now do you think its time for a new opti? Would a bad opti kick the plug off causing this? Or should i retighten it again?
You need to be sure to burp the air out of the plug wire boots or they can work themselves out. I can't imagine the opti itself causing this problem, unless maybe one of the plug wire terminals is cracked or something.
well i just checked it again. Reached down there to see if the connection was secure and sure enough the plugs were pretty wet with coolant. Going back to the mechanic tomorrow as they just installed the water pump about a month ago.
