I have a 1989 corvette convertible with the 6 speed manual transmission. I have completely restored the car (actually mechanics and the corvette forum have restored the car). I thought I was finished but the car is now making a light grinding noise as I shift from gear to gear. Not as it is going into the gear but as you push from 1st to second or second to third after it slips easily into gear it is as if it is being pushed too far. Once you release the shifter the transmission is very smooth.
Also, it has begun grinding badly on occasions (which is becoming more frequent) when the clutch is pushed in (even in neutral). Once the clutch is let out the grinding goes away.
The car has only 49,000 actual miles, but set up for 11 years until we began the restoration project in April. It sat up on display in an air conditioned building.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to view the car you can see it on youtube.com. The address is "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIRjUCBKvr4".
Before you mentioned the clutch making the sound in neutral, that was kinda what i was leaning to.
Have you replaced it? If so, is it broken in yet? If so, is the throw on it right? Also is it a stock replacement clutch or a two plate or triple plate?
