Default 1984 engine stumbles

Engine stumbles at idle and acts like it wants to die still has plenty of go but at idle feels like an eractic miss, and lights flicker at idle but when rpm comes up there alright.changes the map sensor, seem to help the idle cold and warm.also this engine sound rich at start up, could this be the temp sensor on the front of the engine?

thanks

There are a few things to start looking at. Don't go out and start buying parts and just replacing things.

First thing Is it throwing and codes?
When is the last time it had a complete tune up? Including fuel filter.

Check for vac leaks.
How do the TB's shaft feel? are the loose?
Check fuel pressure at idle and under load.
What is the voltage at idle and under load
These are free things for you to check, plus will help diagnose.
And FSM would be one of your best friends.

I would start with the CTS sensor and fuel pressure. Do the proper diagnosis first as point out above but start with those two items.

hi, it idles cold at about 1500 then goes down as it warms up to about 700 in neutral but when i put it in gear the idles drops to 600 rpm, i put the car on a code tester and checked the engine stats while running, the iac changes under load ( in gear) but still seems to slow at idle, when it starts cold its rich, but does't seem to have the stumbles, when it get warmed up it idles low and the stumble is very noticable right down to almost stopping.and the lights will ficker too but are ok above idle.BTW i did see a code with the scanner 33 i think high voltage on Map. I replaced it any ideas would be a help here , It has a fresh tune up air filter and a new fuel pump as it died a few weeks ago,
my thought is a bad temp sensor and could the egr switch also be bad. as for the light flicker at idle, maybe the low rpm I don't know .
