Default Climate control

I have an 87 with the climate control system. When I start the car, the fan, heat, etc work but the inside/outside temp LCD does not display nor do the small yellow light under the push buttons. If I disconnect the battery, reconnect it and then start the car, after a few minutes everything works. When I turn the car off and leave it for awhile, come back and restart the car, I'm back to square one as stated above. I took the module out and cleaned the contacts. I didn't take the box apart yet.
The A/c doesn't work, it needs a charge (actually I'll be converting it to the newer refrigerant next spring). Two questions, does the A/C need to work for the LCD to display? Does the box store any codes that must be cleared? If so how do I clear them? Does the box need to be taken apart and cleaned inside? Rebuilt? Who does that? Suggestion?
Thanks
Steve

There are no meaningful codes for your Year. The Electronic Controls for the '87 contain all of the processing functions and it sounds like you've got a bad solder joint or a poor connection. Inspect ground which runs from the Controls to the driver side Kick Panel, but it sounds like your Vette needs a new or rebuilt Panel.

Default Environment Control Module

I had the same problem. I also converted my AC while I was at it. There is a circuit card that fits in to a bulkhead edge connector connecting the circuit card to the display. Mine had a couple of bad solder connections on the edge connector inside the display panel. Be careful taking the display apart. The little black plastic pins holding the display together also locate the little rubber button mats. I would try re-seating the circuit card first. You may just have a little oxidation on the edge connector. Good Luck.
