Larry I sent you a pm. So how is the tranny holding up? Does it shift smoother once it's worked in?

You gotta like that (along with the weight/strength deal)!

nice

Hopefully I will be dropping a TKO-500 in my '85 down the road. Good to see it drops right in.

It did smooth out some but honestly, I probably have close to 1000 miles on it now.

Unless I cruise at 80+ mph, I don't miss the 6th gear at all.

The huge benefit is the less costly push type clutch, stock hydraulics and even a 11" clutch if I like for greater grip.

Really, you would need to drive the ZF side by side with the TKO to determine if you like one over the other.

The TKO has been flawless, drove to the Hot Rod Power Tour in Muskegon, Michigan this week which is 5 hours North, and we got 39-44 MPG on the trip while cruising at 55-70 mph, except for when we broke in the new Sumitomo's at a couple of stop lights

Keisler has a new 6 speed , check into that tranny if you plan on cruising at 80+ mph

I didnt see a 6 speed on there website? 39-44 MPG? You lost me there....All down hill?

If you had 3.07's. Would you still need a 6th gear?

I don't know for sure, but with 3.07's you probably would nt need a 6th gear

MPG = Miles Per Gallon, pretty flat roads,

6-Speed - 700 ft-lbs/TQ

Hey Larry, it's Richard (from earlier in thread)..

I'm glad you posted again in here. Believe it or not, I was wondering how you were liking the TKO. You and I worked through several tech issues back when you first started this project. Even though I am no longer working at the same place, I do like to visit here and see how many of "my" ( ) customers are doing.

Sounds like you had a good time on the Power Tour and knocked down some GREAT gas mileage to boot.

I was thinking about buying the TKO, but $3499 plus shipping is a bit high for me especially in these economic times. I guess it will have to be the ZF.

Too bad there wasnt a group purchase at a discount.

Larry,

How is the tranny holding up? And are you still happy you made the switch?

Tranny is a 100% non issue, works perfectly, and I expect it to handle the increased hp/tq of the new engine in the fall as well.

I only miss having the 6th gear if I travel at 75+ mph on the interstate, otherwise I never think about it.

I would do it again for sure.

Does anyone make an SFI bellhousing to fit this transmission? I didn't see anything too specific with Quicktime or Lakewood.

My buddy RJ has the same TKO-600 and he bought a SFI bell housing. He originally had a Richmond ROD and swapped to a TKO

Keisler can help you I'm sure
