Hey everyone.....Here is what I did on my stock 1987 convertible with automatic trans and 2:73 gears:
Removed the pre-cats and had them sleeved
Replaced stock converter with Magnaflow converter
Changed stock o2 sensor for new Bosch unit
cut open the front air filter box and new air filter
removed mass air screens.
The car now does not want to stay started on the first try to start it. (Does that sentence make sense?) Re-explaination....On the first attempt to start the car, it starts, then dies right away. The car re-starts with no problem and idles low until I rev the gas a little bit. The car now stays alive. The idle is still a little low for my tastes. What is making the car not want to stay started on the first try?
2nd problem? or not? When I am on the road the car is driving great. But, from a dead stop, if I mash the gas the tires will spin straight through first and when I hit second it just falls flat. Lack of gear in the rear?
The car definately has more power because before I did these replacement items the car would barely spin first from a stand still. The car will break them loose no problem now. The sound is also really a huge difference and sounds so good. What am I missing?
Hopefully some of the guys with more knowledge will offer some assistance, but let's start w/ something easy/free. About all you've done is allow the car to breath better. Try disconnecting the battery
for ten or fifteen minutes, the re-connect. This will allow the ecm to go back to it's initial calibration and begin relearning. Also, while the batt is off, double check and make sure the O2 sensor is connected properly.
I'm not sure what might be causing the 2nd gear fall off, but this might get you started. Good luck. The mods you've done should not cause this problem, so it's prolly something done inadvertantly or one of those problems that's unrelated, but just happened to show up now.Good luck
Why did you remove the mass air screens? Sometimes taking these out (on certain cars) will cause the sensor to read improperly. The sensor could be reading less air than your engine is ingesting and thus not giving enough fuel.
I disconnected the battery for 3 hours and left the lights on to drain any power that may be left. Reconnected it and drove it home. Started the car this morning and drove it to work. It feels like a new car. The power increase is very noticable. Thanks for the info.....

You mean I actually came up with an idea that worked?!?!?!?
