Default Reading the .bin of a computer...

I was trying to pull the program off of my '93 blazer tonight using Tuner Cat's read program and my ALDL module.

It wouldn't ever connect to the computer.

So. my question... Can you only read the .bin off of a Flash RAM computer .. and not one that is a chip?

The computer has to support reading through the ALDL port, which I do not believe that does - but if it did, I would be suprised if the same program worked for the LT1/LT4 as well as that engine.

Well, I am using DataMaster's '93 S-10 4.3L version for reading.. and Tuner Cat has the correct ECM .tdf files for my car, so I was hoping it would work :(

Scanning the computer is a functionality that is supported by standard. Flash programmability is a manufacturer's choice. AFAIK the blazer does not support this.

You could pick up a chip burner and edit your program.

Well... I know it isn't flash programmable.. but I was hoping to be able to read the program off of it, modify the program, and have a Marcho burn it on a chip for me. I

you'll need to pull the chip and throw it on my programmer to read it. I don't think you can pull it through the ALDL like that. I know I've heard there is a way to get it to send the bin through, but I don't remember how.

Yep, you will have to get the prom out of the computer so someone (me or Marcho) can down load the .bin file. I have also seen people talk about getting the prom to do a memory dump through the ALDL, but I don't know how to do it. Anyway, I'm in Tulsa if you can get the chip to me I'll download the .bin and then it could be sent to Marcho and he can tune it for ya and I'll burn the new chip. I'm offering cuz I see you are at OU so maybe this route is easier for you. Anyway I'll help if ya need me.

I just pulled my bin file from my 89 Trans Am through the ALDL using Craig Moates new version program. Sweet. I compared it to a stock bin, and it looks correct, it is an Ed Wright bin file.

I don't know if Craig's software supports your car, but I pulled my bin file without pulling the chip out of the ECM.:)

Thanks Craig!
