Default Check engine light, code 43

After going through the entire fuel control and emission system I was still pulling code 43 (knock sensor, ECS). I had changed almost every sensor under the hood. New fuel injectors and a new fuel pump and pressure regulator where also installed. The last item I changed was the MAF. Then the only code I was pulling was code 43 and then only under hard acceleration. I used premium gas so higher octane fuel was out. I decided to change out the thermostat from the OEM 195 to a 180 degree unit. This did the trick. No more code 43 and the car runs great.
This is an 85 with the L98 TPI engine with iron heads. I live at sea level and outside temps run 80 to 90 during the day.
Has anybody else had a similar problem?

I have the same problem right now, code 43. My 1990 idle bad at low rpm.
Did this happen to you??
I checked my knock sensor resistence, it's out of range.
Tell more about your code 43 problem
Regards

Well I realize that you both have L98s, but I was having very similar problems with my LT1 (94). Like you I chased my tail for weeks, then found that my optispark cap was carbon arcing and causing a dead cylinder and missing bad on two others. Changed out the distributor (could have changed the cap and rotor but chose to replace completely due to the accessibility issue) and all is good. Have you looked at the distributor? I know that the opti is very different from the distributor on the L98, but it warrants a look.

Sorry to say this, but I have a feeling you'll be back with the same ole problems. I only say this because I can't see going from a 195 to a 180, or for that matter any thermostat change eliminating a code.
