Default Thoughts on a streetable blower

I've only visited this section of the forum on brief stints and dreams of having a blower, but each time my desire for more speed draws me closer, so I figured I would ask the question.

What is a good streetable blower(2k-6500RPM) that will fit under the stock C4 hood and is reliable? I'm running 9.6:1 CR with forged rods and crank, unsure about pistons but I know they are not cast. Also, as sig states, not running fuel injection anymore. What are my options, and what is a safe boost rate I can run without problems? Thanks.

that is an interesting combination that you have. I am not sure of the belt driven assembly configuration, but vortech/paxton/procharger all will fit under the hood. since these all sit in front of the engine. I am not sure if you would be able to use a generic small block chevy "with carb" engine bracket from these vendors. They all have several combinations that are available. They also have a diagram of how the blower sits in relation to the engine. This would be your first stop. Once you've determined which bracket works best (and also depending on what side of the engine you place the blower on), you'll need the correct outlet for the blower headunit... again many options from all the vendors here as well. The key component for you would be the "low profile" blower "hat" for carb'd motors and the correct carb for a blow through supercharger application. Vortech happens to have a very large boxed shape manifold that sits on top of the carb, but i do not believe it will clear the stock C4 hood. summitracing.com as well as jegs.com have the low profile carb hat for supercharged applications.

your second option of superchargers would be a roots style blower, that sits on top of the engine. I have seen the eaton/magnuson blower head unit (MP112) used on LT1 f-bodies, and they manage to clear the stock hood because they are EFI engines... with the carb, you're going to need a low profile blower that will accept a carb to sit on top (don't know if it will clear the hood). this would make for a very fun "streetable" TQ monster! here is a link from edelbrock:

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...chargers.shtml

I believe there are a hand full of vendors that still make the traditional (although not very efficent) roots style.

Weiand still makes the "142" and the "177" blowers (again check out summitracing.com and jegs.com)

I gotta to agree what was said above. Unless you go back to FI, you will probably have to buy a cowl hood or graft one on. Still have the tpi parts? Procharger has some nice carb kits I have seen lately.

that's not what I meant, you CAN supercharge your car with a centrifugal supercharger "IF" you use a carb hat for forced induction and you will clear the hood no-problem....

it's the first image on this link. It's an FI carb hat. i believe holley and paxton carry one as well!

Yep, you are right. First image in my head was the Vortech box not the low profile ones. I forgot all about this Ebay car that had a similar style hat with twin turbos. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=200257021878
