I used the GM oil & additive. Other than using 2 bottles of additive rather than one, I didn't see much point in trying to outsmart GM on this one.

Why would you use 2 bottles rather than what GM recommends?
Don't you want you limited slip to work ?

Does Royal Purple have friction modifier it in allready?

Redline gear oil has 2% from the factory, it works great in my D44
with no additional additive.

I'm using the Redline as well, it has additive and I don't add more.

What Redline diff oil did you use for your D44A diff? Did you suck the old fluid out of the fill hole? I don't see a drain plug.

What does GM spec? 75w/90??

For those that used the GM friction modifier ~ how much?? Thanks.

I used the factory weight in the Redline. I had a drain plug
that I drilled and tapped.

Redline also makes friction modifier, but I never needed it.

Suck the old fluid out and fill with oil, Drive the car in a parking
lot in tight circles and see if you get "chatter" from the rearend.
If you get chatter, add 1/4 bottle of modifier. repeat until you get no noise.

I never needed to add modifier with Redline. Keep in mind that
I autocross my car and need the LS to work. If you car is a DD,
just dump in a bottle of Friction Modifier.

It's not just me. Using two bottles is practiced by many people here, as demonstrated in at least half of the threads I clicked on in my search just now. Maybe it's overkill, but I've never seen anyone else even hint that it hurts anything.

It apparently originated as a Gordon Killebrew recommendation, and based on the posters who stated so, I have no reason to doubt it.

I use Red Line 75W90, no extra additive added since it has it already mixed in. Make sure the car is level and fill until it dribbles out the fill plug. Takes about a quart and a half.

Using 2 bottles won't hurt anything, it will make you Limited slip
not work well (Slip too much). One bottle of GM is 4% friction modifier, (GM spec.)

Redline has 2%, and I have never added more than that.

Since I autocross, I want my LS to work. I can't imagine why
Gordon K. would recommend using more. Do you know why?

I use one bottle of gm ls additive with mobil 1 75-90 in my dana 44 and its nice and quiet in turns. No reason to add anymore then you need.

Joe,
I use Amsoil synthetic 75-90 with one bottle of limited slip additive following intial break-in of new gears, clutches, and bearings with conventional GM gear oil after a couple hundred miles.

I thought GM no longer sold the oil they originall spec'd for our diffs? Or am I just confused with all the other stuff GM has dropped for our cars?

I use Mobil 1 75w-90 and put in one bottle of the GM additive.

What you're saying makes sense. I don't remember if I ever saw the reasoning. Maybe to quiet things down or slow down wear?

I have had no indication of too much slip, but it certainly doesn't get as much of a workout as autocross.

The oil I got was the original part number, at least, but it was a couple of summers ago. I wouldn't be surprised.

There is a new part number for the GM oil. 89021669

None of the local dealers have it in stock.

I use the AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 in my 02 Z06 dedicated track car and 06 CTS-V daily driver. This fluid does have the additive in it and neither of my cars requires extra additive to prevent diff chatter.
