Differential Swap

My 84 was recently turned into a parts car thanks to a drunk driver who was nice enough to total it for me while it was parked in front of my house. I was lucky enough to be able to replace it with a low mileage one owner 85. My question is will the differential from the 84 fit the 85?

Depends. As I recall, all '84s had a Dana36, whereas the 85 and later used a Dana36 for automatics and the Dana44 for manuals. What kind of 85 did you buy?

Straight swap.
All 84- 96 D36 batwing / diff head assemblies the same

IIRC, the bolt holes in the camber bracket area on an '84 differential housing are smaller than on later versions. I tried to install the later brackets and noticed the difference between them.
