OK I am new here and I have a question. It has to do with my 93 LT1. When it is cold the problem is not there, when the RPM's are past 1000 to 1500 the problem is not there, but at idle it sounds like a lifter or valve is ticking sometimes loud and sometime not so loud. Then once and a while it is not there at idle. I had one guy tell me it is normal for the LT1 to do that but it doesn’t sound normal to me. The mileage is just 54 k and other than the ticking at idle runs great with no problems. Can anyone shed some light on what this may be? Thanks

it could be a injector. A bad one sounds like a lifter.. Remove the injector covers and try to isolate the cylinder, Then disconnect the injector to see if it goes away. Could of course also be a lifter or even a broken valve spring

I had a 96 chevy Z-71 that did the same thing. The mechanic at the dealership told me it was the pistons rocking in the cylinders and was caused by the short skirts on the pistons that G.M. used. He told me not to worry about it, some engines would be louder than others. I didn't like that answere but never had a problem with the engine. Traded it when the clock was just under 100K. Since then I've read about rocking pistons in several car magazines, all Chevy magazines ofcourse.

The injectors on my 94 are a little noisy, kind of like a lifter sound but not as loud.
