Default 1996 corvette c4

my check light is on and the code is po 753 and that is the shift solenoid, where would i find it and is it easy to replace,
thanks and please help my name is steve email tkapsbug@northstate.net

It looks like this is a code for the 1-2 shift solenoid in an automatic trans. You need a scanner, DVOM, and some other tools to check this. This part is inside the trans., you have to drop the pan to replace it. It is in the valve body.

They're located on the trans control valve body. DTC 753 is the 1-2 shift A solenoid. This link shows you where the A solenoid is located on the valve housing. [CLICK HERE]

Before taking or having the transmission taken apart, here's a trick that worked on my 96 Toyota Camry which had a similiar error code.

Disclaimer -- Please double-check your FSM and assure none of the below suggestions will make matters worse.

On the Camry, the code implied one of the selonoids were not functioning, but upon further analysis, I figured out that the PCM determined the error existed before appling any voltage, by performing a resistance test on the selonoid circuit. After doing the last thing below, it fixed it and had been working fine now for over 5 months.

1st, try changing the fluid a couple of times, it might dislodge whatever is clogging the selonoid and solve the problem with no additional effort (didn't work for me, but you never know).

If that doesn't work, then this might work.

find and seperate the wire connector for the selonoid (may have to remove the pan to gain access to the wire connector -- had to on the Camry).

Apply 12vDC Positive voltage to the tranmission side of the previously disconnected connector a few times (negative to the transmission housing), listening for the selonoid to click when the voltage is applied.

If your lucky like I was, initially there will be no clicking, but after a few times (3-5) of touching the Positive battery wire to the transmission side of the selonoid, it will start clicking (i.e. dislodging the clog or resetting the selonoid's position -- i.e. un jamming it) and hopefully then your check engine light will go out forevermore.

Just a quick ? Steve, did it clear or does it immediately turn the SES back on? If it clears and doesn't come back, just watch it the FSM notes 40 warm up cycles without a failure reported. If it comes back, you may want to check the wiring, etc... but more than likely, the solenoid may have failed.

The solenoid at Autozone is $25.99 ea and I found it on line for $12 CLICK HERE, if you're going to drop the pan to "cycle the solenoid" why not remove the clip and replace the solenoid. IMHO, If I'm dropping the pan, I'm replacing both solenoids and the filter... just my $.02

BTW, there's no drain plug on the trans so you have to drop the pan to drain the fluid or remove it through the dip stick.

Jsavoy,

you make a good point about just replacing the selonoid, assuming the selonoid(s) are accessable from the bottom of the tranny after only removing the pan.

By contrast, on my 1996 Camry, the selonoids were above the whole valve body and required effectively a complete dismantling of the tranny to gain access to the selonoids -- not something I was looking forward too, hence my stumbling on the 'trick'.
