Does he swallow too? I bring mine to the local Mercedes shop because they have nicer weights than the usual tire stores. They have made it clear to me that they will NOT work on my car but if it is just the wheels, no problem. They use the Wurth wheel weights. http://www.wurthcanada.com/en/Automo..._wheeltire.pdf MBN series plastic coated. Weights are more precise. By the gram.

As I have said to the service manager, Cocaine is the drug choice of the exclusive. Pot is more of a blue collar thing. Cocaine is sold by the gram. Pot is by the ounce. My Vette is exclusive, just like their MBs so my Vette gets wheel weights by the gram. I even asked if he would use that as an advertisement but he seemed to think it would not send the right message.

Just to be fair, there is a Firestone store in Rio Rancho,NM(Albuquerque area) that is run by a Corvette guy. He drives a C6 z06, and has owned C4s and C5s. He comes recommended by the local Corvette Specialist for tires and alignment. I had my car aligned there 4 months ago, and went back recently to check it again(low tire caused it to pull, duh). He balanced the front tires no charge. I would go back to see him again.

My Firestone horror stories;

In the early 90's, I took my Mustang in for an alignment. They called me 20 minutes later saying someone had backed into the door. When I got there, the jerkweed "mechanic" had moved my car into the middle of the parking lot to get another car out and had left it there....parked in the middle of the lot. Some teenager with a 30 day fly by night insurance policy had backed into it. The store refused to turn the damage over to their insurance. I turned it over to mine (state farm). They subrogated, and a year later, I got my $250 deductible back.

Being the forgiving guy I am, I took my Vette in to have a flat fixed. Actually, I'm not that forgiving, I just happened to get the flat a block from Firestone, was dressed nicely, and didn't feel like putting the spare on. They fixed it. 6 months later, I went to rotate my tires, and discovered they had used an impact wrench on my locking lugs....and of course, it was stripped. They refused to take any responsibility. After an hour of pounding a socket onto the stripped lug, I got it off myself.

Fast forward a decade. I figure it must have been bad mgt...and I needed tires for my F250. Firestone had the best deal...but they weren't in stock. They said to bring it in in the morning and leave it, and it would be done that afternoon. I took off work early to get there before they closed....and the truck has sat there all day...no new tires. They forgot to order them....said they would have them the next day. Furious, I told them to give me my keys back and eat it. The sales dude didn't want to loose his commission on $650 worth of tires, and pleaded with the mgr to do something. He wound up (begrudgingly) giving me $75 off....the next day the truck was finally ready.

Firestone are asshats of the highest order. I sincerely hope they go down the tubes. Their service levels are inexcusable.

Wow. Luckily I have never even needed the chance to use Firestone, but hopefully you guys are reporting your instances to the BBB?!

Hey, guys, your life will be easier if you understand that you will be ripped off by everybody! Any business owner can charge any price he wants, just call around!
Prepare, you will be ripped off by:
mechanics, doctors, lawyers, plumbers, electricians, real estate agents, title companies etc.!
Lesson #2: world is full of morons!
If you go to change oil you better check oil and leaks after! You go to get alignment get print and check it! If they say camber is not adjustable read manual!
Unless you know enough you will be ripped off.

Very true. Many businesses make a lot of money by taking advantage of those who don't know. It's sad but that's why the internet is great, it allows for people to research their options to more than local.

you know it's funny, every chevy dealership I've worked for has actually had a higher labor rate for corvettes, think of it as ******* tax(most of the guys dumb enough to bring their cars in are complete *******s). You see most owners of newer corvettes are a bunch of know nothing idiots that are happy to pay it. The smart guys with common sense DONT TAKE THEIR CARS to dealers for anything other than warranty work. Funny story about a year or so ago a guy bought a new 2008, brings it back the next day complaining about an abnormal noise the trans makes when shifting into second or forth and 6th.. Nobody could duplicate it but the guy insisted so our idiot of a service manager had one of the guys do a warranty trans on it.. it came back the next day with the same problem.. I got the car because the tech who worked on it was out sick, I went to the waiting room and asked the customer to take me for a ride to show me the noise, after 10 seconds I pointed out to him that his elbow was banging the arm rest when he shifted..

This is the result of Firestones "proper" torque. Less than 50 miles down the highway after they put my wheels on my old truck. Scary situation when your wheels come off at 75mph.

you didn't feel it loose while you were driving? I saw a car in the middle of the highway the other day about an 1/8th of a mile from the local goodyear store with extensive fender damage and a wheel missing.. scary how common that kind of thing actually is.. glad you're ok. Its hard to tell from the picture.. what actually happened did they leave them loose or did they tighten em so much they all broke on you?

I never did get a straight answer from them.
To answer your question. No, it never felt loose at all. It was all very sudden. Driving along, heard something similar to parts falling off (turned out to be my lugs and studs) and before I had a chance to react, my 35" tire was rolling down the Interstate and I was in the ditch.
The studs were completely sheared off.

When they earn it, they get it. It is that simple.

Who determines the worth of something to someone? Could I say that your kid is just another person and that there are tons of kids out there so if yours dies, just pick one? That car has a certain sentimental value to me. IF you can replace that, please tell me where to get it from.

Try a sense of humor too.

Sentimental value is fine, I think everyone in this forum understands that. All I'm saying is I hope you're not Cameron's dad from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Cars are cars, people are people. Anyone who values any car over any kid (mine, yours, or otherwise) needs to check their priorities.

And come on, admit it. That bit about coke and pot was kinda lame...
