Default Datamaster mystery DTC error. 92 LT1

For years every time I've hooked up datamaster it shows a DTC error but doesn't actually list a code. I cleared the code two days ago and it seemed to actually stay away. Today I was driving the car home and actually got the chance to open it up a little. I was data logging for no good reason but I caught the code, sorta. I went WOT and shifted hard into 3rd gear. In less than a second the data log goes from showing DTC OK to DTC Err, but it doesn't tell me what the code is!

Why is the computer setting codes that it finds so insignificant that it won't report them? The SES light never comes on and the car runs great. I wouldn't know at all if it weren't for the data log. Ideas anybody?

When you get the error, do all the other numbers look good ? BLMs and O2 normal ? Knock counts ?. Maybe a lean condition for a split second ? Just throwing out possibilities.

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Don't have the answer myself. If it were mine, I'd look over on Moates' site and see
if there is an ALDL definition for a $DA mask. The ALDL stream usually specified all
the Trouble Codes and their names. Been a while since I read one, but it seems to
me they were at the end of the code, listed in a bunch of 'jsr' output calls. From the
complete list, maybe you can pick out one Code specific to your observation.

Also, doesn't DM have a sub panel that shows specific DTCs? Seems to me if you
went to the frame where the code occurs, you can open a detail within DM for more
info. That's what I remember from 8D anyway..

Yes it does, you're absolutely right. Unfortunately though it doesn't show me the code. I can have the DTC window open and everything is green. I can go step by step until the main window starts showing DTC err and nothing ever shows up in the DTC window, not even for an instant.

I will check out the moates thing though. Keep those ideas coming!

Happens to me all the time. I don't think it's a reflection of the ECM or the car's performance - it's primarily a communications problem between the ECM and your laptop, if I'm not mistaken. That's why there is a gap in the data stream whenever the DTC error occurs. Possibly changing the data transfer rate in the software can cure the problem.

Well see what's weird with mine is that there doesn't appear to be any gap, the communication is never lost. Nor does the code go away when I unplug the computer and/or restart datamaster. I have to tell it to clear codes before it'll go away.
