Default cooling system

Hello all
Here is my situation with my 1991 L98 6 speed. On the highway the engine does not heat up. It will not produce heat and the gauge does not move from its starting point, thats how cold it runs. Once i pull off, the temprature starts to go up and I get heat back and then the temp gets really hot and just runs hot. Both on the highway and city streets the center console remains to be very very warm to the touch. The coolant was changed two years ago and the raditor is feel and clear of any debris. Levels are fine also. Not sure where the problem is. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The fans question is a good one about heating when you're in city driving, but you should warm up when on the highway. It sounds like your thermostat is stuck open and the fans aren't coming on. Also, what do you mean by hot? What do your gauges say?

All the gauges read oil is running cool and coolant is running cool but the center console is very warm to touch, like a snickers bar would melt if in the center console. Oil temp runs cool on the highway and goes up a little in the city but is normal, never hot. I will have to check the fans and see if they come on, if they dont any ideas. The thermostat is unknown and i will just replace to take the guess work out of this. Wat setting should I install? Thanks I will keep you posted.

I had the same situation and it was both a fan motor and a relay switch. However, I was not the one that diagnosed it; TJ was working on my car when he discovered it.

I know one way to check to see if the fans kick on is turning on your AC system or you can let the car get to operating temp. I know that the fans turn on at different operating tempatures.

Either way, good luck; I am sure someone else will be able to chime in to help.
