Default Gears i need info

I have a stock 95 with the stock 259. I am planning on going to the 355 gears. Has anyone done this and if so what is it like? Thanks. Quarter mile numbers would help.

If your going to spend the $$'s I would go with 3.73's. With overdrive there still very streetable and you'll notice better performance at the track.

Although it really doesn't matter you didn't state if your stock '95 was auto/Dana 36 or manual/Dana 44. I've swapped both Dana 36 and 44 with 3.73's. I hope to swap in 4.10's in my Dana 44 sometime in the future.

The one thing you will have to consider doing is changing the speedo gear in the tranny unless the ECM takes care of that. I have a '93 so I had to change the speedo gear located in the tail housing of the tranny. Also you may have to get a new carrier going from 2.59 to 3.xx but not sure.

I suggest you do a search for 'gears' or 'dana' on the forum to find other threads on this topic.

sorry mine has the dana 36 auto. well the reason why i was not wanting to do 373's is because i am going to do a 383 stroker with big heads and cam later. and i think that the lower gears would be fine. that is why.

For an auto, I'd stick with 3.45's personally. You can stick with the D36 and keep it cheaper or go with a D44, but that gets pricey!

and i mean the 259 is ok i mean it is nice at low speeds but at high speeds it really sucks. and i just want more out of it. that is why i was wanting to sticks with something in the 350 ratio of gears. i originally wanted the 373 but i am hearing that if i do that engine that i might not want to. does anyone have quarter mile numbers after doing gears

Not sure why the concern with 3.73's and 383 stroker. I have a 396 stroker with 3.73's and you can see my times in my signature. Stroker, heads, and cam typically want to rev higher thus lower gears (higher numerical gear) So if your wanting faster stop-light-to-stop-light or 1/4 mile times go with the 3.73's or lower gears unless you want top end speed for a road course.

If your going go with stroker motor in the future I would recommend looking into D44 swap. I had D36 and blew out the spider gears. So far with D44 no problems. D44 is much stronger and the reason they mated it with manual tranny to begin with.

Cost isn't that bad. I got my swap kit for less than $1K at Contemporary Corvette salvage. That was several years ago so price may be more. The kit includes D44 pumpkin, diff housing, torque arm and drive shaft.

I had a 2.59 rear gear in my 95 went to a 3.73 and what a difference feels like i added another cylinder.Best thing i ever did to the car was getting rid of the 2.59. all you would have to do is drive one without the 2.59 and it would be a no brainer.
