What else will I need to swap differentials?
Thanks :chevy
I did my 90, and some tings are different for a 94, but I'll take a crack.
For the 90, there was this mysterious gue that you are supposed to apply to the c-beam where it attaches to the tranny and the diff. I did not use it. Hard stuff to find.
Some other things to consider. This is a great time to replace all the rubber bushings. If you do the ones on the diff, you will need a machine shop to press in the new ones. It may also be a good time to consider doing u-joints too.
To correct the tranny, I believe you can do that in a 94 with some kind of programmer to correct it in the ECM. My year needed new plastic gears, which were kind of a pain to sway out.
One other thing to consider. If your car is an auto, then you have a Dana-36. Many like to upgrade them to a 44. That takes a lot of parts. However, if you are going to stick with a 36, there is a new carrier cover available from Ikerds that helps beef it up.

Wish I had known about that when I was doing mine.
Also, some folks do a little trick to help drain the diff. They drill a small hole from the inside of the diff thru the lowest bolt hole that holds in the cover. That way, when they want to drain, they just remove the lower bolt and it all comes out.
Took me about two days, but I had to wait for a machine shop to open to press in the bushings :smash:
I changed out the c beam, driveshaft, yoke, new poly diff bushings. The new poly bushings really stiffen up the ride of the car. I think a bit too much, but damn if it doesn't corner better and hook up more. I'm sure the new sway bars add to this as well. Got both bars online for about $170 shipped.
You will need the HPIII for the speedo thing. Get the car up there if on the ground. Make sure you have 10 thru 18mm sockets and wrenches. Good luck. :D
I got the same rear end and installed it myself. The only thing you are going to need, will be a way to correct the speedo. Mine was changing the gears in the transmission. Yours requires a program change. You might want to consider the hypertech programmer and a 160 t-stat while you are at it. Good luck.
