Default Fiberglass Work

I am looking to do some modifications to the hood of my veete this winter and I picked up that the hood may not be compatable with standard fiberglass resin. Does anyone know what the hood is made of? What will strip the paint off without hurting it ? and what resin is compatable?

The hood of a C4 is SMC or sheet mold composite; technically most epoxy resins will mechanically bond with the part but the expansion rates and other physical properties will be different. Generally speaking applying any type of resin to a SMC panel will result in a bond that will only hold for a matter of time. Depending on what type of modification you are planning on doing 3M and Duramix both have products that closely match the physical characteristics of SMC; these will be your best bet but will not be the best for "making" something from a mold as they are more for repairing and bonding. What is it you are planning on doing?

My plan is to cut the center and section in about a 2 inch riser in the center so I can upgrade my intake and put a nitrous plate on. I am going to stay with factory style dimensions to maintain a stock looking appearance. I have seen a couple in pics and I think I can do it. My plan is to retain the support piece near the windshield and allow the air to "scoop in" similar to the way nascar does it. I have helped others with similar type modifications. My goal is to keep a stock looking appearance and besides clearance maybe improve my cool air charge. According to how it goes I may change all of the ducting within the hood. My car should morph into a purpose built performance car for the street. Drag and handling considerations all taking into account quality well thought out work. My ideal result should be an excellent all around "Year One Experience" car. I also want to do most of the work myself. I also dont want to look like someone that purchased a multitude of bolt on's os just paid someone else.
