Anyone know how to adjust the TV Cable on a 90 C4? My shift points are way too low and the shift firmness seems low as well. It shifts fine at low RPM and not too bad at WOT but, at half throttle it seems like it's hunting. Looking at the cable, it looks like there's a fair amount of slack between the end of the housing and the connection at the throttle lever but I can't figure out how to adjust it. Don't want to screw it up.
Since you know where the housing is...push in the button and hold in...there is a sleeve to the left of the housing on the cable....slide it in to the housing...let go of the button now....move the throttle lever to WOT (wide open throttle) and you will hear several clicks...it is now adjusted. It will take some effort to keep the button pushed in and I usually use a long screwdriver to hold in in for better leverage. I have a 1990 also and this is how I do it..same as the FSM(factory service manual).
Just a note; the cable does have some slack at the throttle lever in the closed position; but at WOT it will be tight.

I'm not a fan of adjusting this cable and what you describe is normal for this tranny. GM will tell you to keep in 3rd gear around town and if you read your owner's manual, you'll find that info. Seriously doubt that you're going to change anything and if you get it out of whack you'll pay for it. PeteL is the tranny expert - I'd ask him - but if you want to change the way it shifts, you'll need to dig into it.
Sorry to be a pain but I've only owned the car two weeks and haven't bought a FSM yet. I've seen pictures on the web that show a D shaped button on the side of the housing. Mine doesn't have one of those.

It is NOT a "D" shape on a 1990. It is a rectangular black button that is flush with the housing and would face you. The adjust procedure I mentioned is the factory spec. on how to do it.
Just got back from the test drive. It made a big difference. It took a lot of adjustment. I wish I knew more about the history of this car (I just bought it two weeks ago from a dealer in Georgia). The engine and tranny are both real clean and shiny looking. The car has 118,000 miles on it but it doesn't use any oil. No smoke, no leaks, no valve noise. The tranny had too much fluid in it, so I had to suck about a quart out to get the level right. The fluid was real pink and didn't smell burnt so, at the very least, it's been serviced recently. I'm wondering if someone replaced the tranny and didn't install the TV Cable properly because, as I said, it was way out of adjustment. Anyway, all is well now. Runs great and shifts great too. Thanks again, UNCLEBILL.
