Hey I'm back with a problem. I bottomed my vette out a few days ago coming out of a steep "hump" and i heard some good scraping on the bottom. Well today I crank it and its making a high pitch squelling from the bottom. Goes with the engine rpms (louder whining with more accel). Any ideas what it is? I'm gona let it sit today and try to figure it out tomorow. Is the drive shaft exposed to the ground?? I hope to hell its nothing major cuse I;m broke so any help would be great! thanks!
I think I know exactly what the problem is. I did the same thing a while back, and the whining got progressively louder over time. The car died yesterday on the way home, and I took it to Corvette Specialties in Austin. The problem was with the "pre-cats" which had both been damaged , damn speed bumps probably! I also had a restricted cat. I believe the pre-cats were causing the whining, and the clogged cat was the big performance drainer. The car really woke up after the cat was replaced! There are always alternatives to getting hosed by your local dealer. shop around. Corvette Specialties sold me some used pre-cats very cheaply, the owner is quite a guy. My brake master cylinder crapped out today, so it's been a bitch of a week. Good news is the car runs like a scalded ape, better than it ever has. The new "high flow" cat sounds better too!! Good luck dude!!!
96 doesn't have pre cats does it? Mine doesn't....id say put ear to bottom end when its at idle and pinpoint the noise. Id bet something is rubbing on the serpent.

On my 94 which is the same as your 96 for the most part it would be difficult to dent or push anything into the serpentine since the pulley is fairly well shielded. Check the power steering cooler. Maybe you damaged it and the pump is running dry due to a puncture or a kink.
Yeah thanks John!! Always good advice :D! Well I do hope its the cats (if it is I'll just have em removed). The belt does seem far up but I will definetly check it. The PS cooler sounds like a good place to check to. Will I know its leaking if the PS resoviour is empty? Sorry for stupidity but I'm just freaking out. School starts monday and I want my vette running good! Thanks for the tips and more are welcome!!
