cargo shade does not need to come out to get to the carpet. all you have to do is take the cover of the cargo shade I off I think. Its been a while, but I Know i still have the cargo shade in place and have the carpets removed lol

the carpet is underneath it and there are fasteners that are blocked by the shade...

It's been a while since I did my carpet but I know I didn't take my shade out. Mainly because I couldn't figure out how to get it out either. I did get the carpet replaced with no problems though.

I attempted to remove mine when I was putting in some sound-deadening - supposedly you can pry it to one side and pop it out. Didn't work for me, so I left it. I assume it is humanly possible, but the heat and humidity sapped whatever patience I had at the time.

I just removed mine today to install a new antenna. You have to remove the trim panel across the back cargo area. Then remove the three or four screws holding the black plastic trim piece and the plastic part that holds the shade in the extended position. These are both on the drivers side right above the rear speaker. You will notice that the shade is spring loaded on both ends to hold it in place. On the drivers side you need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull on the spring loaded end. It looks like a flat piece of black plastic pertruding around the end of the shade. Pull it inwards toward the center of the cargo area. As you do this, push the shade forward and up. Thats it! Reverse procedure to reinstall.
