Default Winter Wheels?

Parking my 89 'vert for the winter, and I'm wondering if I should be taking off my new wheels and storing them in the basement for the winter? My garage isn't heated and the car wont' be driven till likely May.

I have a line on a cheap set of 16 inch 'unidirectional turbines' with crappy tires from an older C4, will these fit on my 89? I know there is offset issues, but it won't be seeing the road so I'm just worried about clearing the brakes and wheel wells... or is it even worth swapping the wheels out? I want to keep something on it, as I may be moving it around the garage, but it won't be seeing the road.

Thanks,

C.

If you can, put it on jackstands. That will prevent flat-spotting of the tires. Not sure if the older wheels will fit; if they're 16", they may not even fit over the brakes...

I was thinking of putting it up on stands, but I may want to move it from time to time to do projects on it over the winter... so having to put the wheels back on all the time is gonna be a big pita.

if the tires flat spot over the winter, is it going to damage the tire? or will they bounce back after a few miles?

It can permanently damage the tire, depending on how long it sits.

You don't have to remove the wheels tho! Just put it on jackstands, leave the wheels on. Just drop it off the stands if you want to move it.

Bah! I just took mine off the jack stands this morning after putting it on them last week. A bunch of guys in the Canadian forums were saying it's hard on the suspension and a better alternative was to park it on insulation board so it's off the concrete which I also did this morning.

oh really....? interesting. do you have a forum link? I'd be interested in reading that, since I'm up here in Canada myself... can't see how that would keep the tires from flatspotting though...

The tires don't flat spot anymore. This is left over for the days of bias ply tire that would. Even then they would round back out after a few miles. Any time you are parked you should have some sort of vapor barrier and or good air flow.
