Default LT1 Upgrade questions

I have a 92 LT1 that I am planning to bore 30-over and install a head and cam combination. I would like the motor to make 400-450 hp, I still want it to be efficient on the highway, and I want it to be reliable. What type of head and cam cobinations do you recommend?

I think your going to need more displacement then that, plus generally 25% more horse power doesn't come without 25% more fuel. Our turbo users might disagree with me though.

Wheel or crank hp. A nice set of after market heads(AFR 195 or Dart 200) and a small cam(LPE 219 or hot cam) and all the bolt ons will get you 450hp at the crank. Or just call AI or EPW and have them pick a set up.

You can make a 383 for about the same $$$ as a 355.

Is it an auto or man.? 400-450 crank is fairly easy. 400-450 to the wheels is doable, but it will be a bit radical. You would need a cam capable of 240-250@.050 duration and lift around .600. You would also need heads capable of flowing over 275cfm. Not to mention gears and /or a higher stall tc to bring it together.

Not to mention with that radical setup you'll need a bottom end you can trust over 6500 RPM on a regular basis. A good rebuild with strong parts should work fine, but it's something to pay attention to. A stock short block could have problems keeping up.

It is a manual trans., and I am looking to get 400-450 hp at the crank. A co-worker said we could do a valve job on the heads, and replace the cam to reduce cost. Any opinion?

How much do you have to spend, that will narrow your options down.

Find out what cam you want to run first. If you want to shift at no more than 6100rpm, the hot cam would be a good choice. If you dont mind winding it out few hundred rpm more, the cc503 would be it. There are bigger cams but for what you are looking for they wont be needed. How experienced is this co-worker when it comes to head porting?
