Default Best High Flow Cat?

Everyone seems to be going for Random Technology in a high flow cat, but I've heard some testing indicates theirs is NOT the best flowing CAT for the money......does anyone have any info on this?

I've heard that though it's not the "best" it is one of the best. Since I don't have data on alternates I went with the RT for my Vette.

...I have some info on the pricing...I shopped around when I was putting my exhaust together, and found TPiS had the best price for a Random Tech cat...Beat Randoms price even...

Thanks for the info guys......I saw the cats in TPIS catalog, but unless I missed it, they don't say they're RT's......of course, they don't tell you who makes their intake manifold either, do they...... ;)

IIRC, they do say on their web site...I did a pricesearch (went to Random site; got a list of dealers; compared & found TPiS was cheapest); ordered on-line, same price as 2001 catalog (which I also ordered)...It's a Random...Only odd thing I noticed was that the inlet neck was slightly larger than the 2 1/2" front Y-pipe I got from MAD...Not sure who's to blame, but a little work with a cutoff tool gave me enough "slack" to clamp it down tight...But for the money, it should have been a tighter fit...Again, I'm not sure which part is out of spec...If yours is too loose and you don't want to cut into it, send it back...

As for me, once I get my hands on a part, I don't want to let go!... :D

I bought my Random Tech convertors from ThunderRacing in Baton Rouge, LA. (www.thunderracing.com) I didn't do a lot of shopping around, but Thunder was a lot cheaper than RT themselves and their service was flawless. Just FYI, you will rarely find that buying from the manufacturer will save you any money (Borla was the same way when I bought my cat-back system). Most major manufacturer's charge list price for a couple of reasons. They find the costs of doing direct business with individuals too high due to support issues, and many "ethical" manufacturers respect their authorized dealers and do not want to alienate them by underselling them directly to their dealers customers. It is also difficult for a manufacturer to maintain any kind of predictable profit structure if they start undercutting their own "suggested retail" pricing. Many companies today (Microsoft was about the first one to do this) have completely eliminated "retail pricing" to allow them to compete directly with their own customers (resellers). I was a computer retailer for over 18 years before retiring and believe me, I know of which of speak. Sorry to rant, just an issure with me.
BTW, I really like the sound of the RT converters and as a surprise bonus, they are small enough that the interior, especially around my right foot, is much cooler with the RT's. I found that the original Cat on the driver's side was only about 1/4" from the firewall down by my foot. Sometimes I would literally have to drive on cruise for a while to keep from scorching my foot. As far as performance, I haven't been to the track to check it out, due to my wife's feelings about my last trip there, which cost me about $2000 in repairs.

Thanks for the replies. DWaltz, I think you may have misinterpreted my question and that's probably my fault....I"m speaking of the main cat, not the pre cats......but your premise is the same....Manufacturers are not any cheaper than retailers for the reasons you mentioned....interesting stuff....I"m going to go ahead and order the RT main cat....now I've got to decide about headers....see my post on this....
