NEED ADVICE on 1993 LT1 coupe....
Hi guys. Every few days or so someone emails me through my site and asks me a question about a Corvette they are looking to buy.
Here is the latest - I though I'd pose it to you C4 guys (who better to help him out):
NB: I am going to give him the link to the thread so he can see your answers first hand:D Be nice.
Now, I am going to give him some advice but I am a C3 guy so I hope you all can give him the goods on opti-spark and such.....

I am thinking about buying a 93 LT1 coup corvette. I have never owned a Vette before and was wondering if you could tell me if there was something bad with that year. I have searched the net and didn't find goods and bads about that year. I would appecaite it if you could give me some info. They was 12,800 for it.
Thanks

For reference, this was my response:
The 1993 Corvette is a beauty! In 1992 GM introduced the 300 hp LT-1 engine to rave reviews. In 1993, the engine was relatively unchanged. Slight alterations in the cam profile bumped torque from 330 to 340 and 4-bolt main bearing caps replaced the 2-bolt caps from 1992. They also switched to synthetic oil and platinum-tipped spark plugs.
Other changes on the car include a touchless key entry and the front wheels and tires were shrunk from 275/40/ZR17 to 225/45/ZR17.
Performance wise, expect 0-60 to be 5.0 to 5.5 and 1/4 to be 13.5-13.9/104-107.
Have you driven a Corvette before? What type of car are you accustomed to? This would help me help you out. And it handles like a roller coaster. Keep in mind that NOTHING, and I do mean NOTHING out there compares for 12,800. Shoot, nothing compares NEW for <40K.
Keep an eye on this link - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=217547 - I have posted your question for 4th generation Corvette owners to see and help you out. Try doing a search on corvetteforum.com for '1993' and 'LT-1' and you'll come up with some great stuff.

Looks right on the money to me except:
In 93 the front wheels went from 17x9.5 to 17x8.5 with the smaller tire. Rear wheels stayed at 17x9.5 but they bumped the rear tire size to 285 - 40 x 17. RPO Z07 came with 17x9.5 and 275-40x17 all around just like the 92.
My advice, if it's good shape, is to go for it. :D

As a owner and recient purchaser of my 93 40th, I LOVE IT. As a testament my 93 has over 100,000 on it and still runs like a "bat out of H E L L"! This is the 40th year the Vette was made and a good one they made indeed. :yesnod:

Don't know if it's a typo or not, but the non Z51 came with 8.5 inch rims with 255/45ZR17
I just picked up my '93 with 36,000 miles for $15,500.
Getting in and out is much harder than in my '95.
As for performance, I haven't made any runs yet, been rained out teh last two weeks.
With the 2.59's, I can still smoke 'em thru first and part way thru 2nd gear. That's without holding the brakes.
A fine car indeed and it still has a dashboard glovebox.

Anybody with a '93 have an f-body or a Mustang for comparison purposes? That is what he had/has.
The TA does have a bit nicer ride in traffic, smoother, and better mannered on rough uneven streets.
I had an 88 TA that had about the same ride as the Vette, but no where near the power, I personnelly(sp?) like the stiffer ride and sure feel that the Vette and the 88 has/had.
If the price is good, and you like the car buy it, there is nothing that puts a smile on my face like driving the Vette, even the TA can't do it as well.
There will be cars out there that are faster, quicker, handle better.
But unless you have the 40K for a new C5 or big bucks for BMW, or Viper the Vette is just as much fun, and it's a :chevy ...
Need I say more :D
Here are a few things to check...
1. Intake leak - make sure to check around the front and rear of intake for wet oil.
2. Power Antenna - make sure that it fully extends/retracts.
3. Drivers side window - look for small scratches. This is indicates that the felt tip window screws are going/gone and work needs to be done.
4. ALDL cover - mine was missing.
5. If power seats with lumbar, ensure that the seat pumps and all air hoses are functional/intact. I had to replace both motors and one air line.
If I can think of anything else, I'll edit this post. Hope this helps. :)

My 93 has just over 124K on the clock and still feels very powerful. There are a few quarky things to worry about, but nothing major. The opti is the weak link so tell him not to wash the engine with a hose or power sprayer. Ensure all the electrical stuff works. Find a local corvette shop and take it in for a lookover. Could save you big bucks down the road.
