Just recently replaced rear y-pipe and mufflers (2 weeks ago) now car is hard to start when engine is warm. It will start but immediately dies. Pumping the gas does not change the way it starts. I can finally get it going by reving the engine immediately and holding a high rpm for 15 to 30 seconds, then it seems to run fine. Starts right up when its cold. Would a plugged cat cause this? I did not replace the cat but did have to take off and put back on due to breaking bolts during disassembly. The old cat appeared OK but it is probaly the original. The enging does burn a little oil at start up probally due to bad valve guide seals but no plan to replace those any time soon. The car has 60,000 miles on it. I was thinking about unbolting the cat to see if that fixes the problem. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the help.
BTW - Thanks for all of the advise on exhaust recommendations. I put in the Dynomax y-pipe with the crossover balance tube and the Dynomax mufflers (from Mid America) great low rumble with a tolerable amount of cabin resonance. Very happy!!! Thinking now that I should have replaced the cat also.
