I used to get a Code 32 because the EGR system was removed on the
'91 L98 I bought a few years back. After replacing injectors (which shouldn't have disturbed anything), no longer get Code 32, and mileage has dropped 25%.
Any ideas on what would cause Code 32 to stop occurring?
Code 32 doesn't bother me and there is an easy way using a diode to make the current ECU think the EGR is there.
My point is I'm trying to relate my drop in mileage to the absence of Code 32, thinking if I can fix why Code 32 is now gone that my mileage may improve.
The way the ECM know you dont have an EGR valve is when it tells it to open manifold vacuum does not drop. There is no way to remove code 32 unless you get a new chip...... or put that lazy excuse for engineering back on there.
Thanks. THe tables helped in that confirmed the MAP sensor is involved, which I already replaced.
My problem, which many of you misinterpreted, is that I WANT CODE 32 to return! The car was getting much better mileage with CODE 32 and I want to fix whatever changed that is preventing CODE 32 from occurring.
Check manifold vacuum to see if it's at normal levels; looking for a vacuum leak.
Pull the spark plugs to see if all cylinders are firing properly.
What injectors and of what size did you install?
When idling, put a finger in turn on the back of each injector connector to feel for the pulsing to insure all are firing.
Plugs were just changes with the OEM recommended (previously had Bosch split-tip somethings that were all evenly colored). New plugs made no difference in mileage or Code 32.
The shop installed new 21lb Accel injectors. THey claim to have checked the part numbers on the old injectors and called Chevy dealer to confirm the new injectors were correct.
Can you feel the injector firing? Neat idea... I'll have to try it.
Code 32 is back, which is a good thing. Turns out the fuel pressure regulator was only putting out about 10 - 20 lbs. Set it to 40, car runs much better , and the EGR Code 32 (car has no EGR) is back like it used to be.
