I was just astonished to find out that BFGoodrich sold its tire business to Michelin North America (The "MNA" referenced in BFG tire warranties.) in 1986. Are the tires still made in this country? Do there appear to be any technology crossovers?
I was in contact with BFG 2 weeks ago about some racing tires, and they had said the tires are still made in the USA, BFG is owned by Michelin but is run as BFG. :)
yes. BFG is a subsidiary of Michelin... has been for a number of years... the upside? better research and development facilities and quality control.
I don't know of any downsides...
I have owned many sets of Comp TAs over the years and have been very happy... also, the Kumho's are designed by the same person who designed the Comp TA.
I used to run a tire shop. BFG and Michelin tires come on the same truck and and are on the same packing slip. There are a few more smaller lines that they make too, like Uniroyal, etc...
Goodyear ownes a few different lines also.
I carried 8 different brand names and only had two distributors, Michelin and Goodyear.
thats as bad as the battery or antifreeze business... gee...
GNB, Johnsons Controls, and AC Delco make the vast majority of the batteries in the US.
I don't know who makes Interstate. They don't seem to share a common casing with any of the others.
Ashland chemicals (Pyroil, Zerex, and Valvoline) makes most of the antifreeze. Prestone has a nice chunk of the market too though. Ashland makes most of the pirvate labled stuff. Prestone makes TECH 2000 (Wal-Marts pirvate labled crap).
