Question for BBA (Bill Hunter)
Bill--in a previous post by me regarding what I thought was engine missing on a grade, you mentioned playing around touching the brake pedal to see what happens. I did not realize you could cause the torque converter to unlock by doing this so I tried it a few times today while coming up a grade on the freeway (405 heading north from LA into the Valley). Interesting phenomenon but what is actually happening? I assume that what I feel when I tap on the brake is an unlocking of the lock-up mechanism. I also assume that what I have always felt at about 46 mph is the lock-up mechanism engaging. So what happens is that coming up the grade and tapping the brake pedal, the trans "feels" like it is downshifting (unlocking?) and then stays that way for a second or two and then locks again. Is this what is supposed to happen? Thanks.
