Default 393 update:2

1)I ordered a Canton pan direct from Canton and sure enough, I got the wrong one. The second one arrived and sure enough I had to clearance it even though they said it would clear a 3.875 stroke easily. I have a 3.83 stroke yet apparently the rods still hit the scraper. After fixing all of their mistakes and installing the Melling 10554 pump........SUCCESS!! I now have about 65PSI right to 6500RPM!!

2)As for the oil consumption/smoking, I believe I have found that problem too. The intake is warped. If you rest it on the motor with no gaskets it actually rocks back and forth. I will be taking measurements and consulting with a local machine shop to see if I can have it repaired. My stock LT1 intake of course fits perfectly..........way to go Edelbrock!!

3) A good friend of mine (runs a shop now and doesn't tune anymore) who has always gotten impressive numbers out of every car he has ever tuned has agreed to come out of retirement and tune my car on the dyno!!!

Hopefully I can get this all straightened out ( no pun intended ) before the snow hits so I can get some dyno numbers.

All in all I'm very happy I have found the problem and looking forward to getting her tuned by "The Master" himself.

Stay tuned folks

I had no clearance problems w/ the Canton 240T & the 3.875" stroke Callies Compstar crank on my 96 CE/LT4 396 stroker.

The oil pan gasket needed to be trimmed a little for 2 rods. No biggie.

Glad you solved both problems, though.

I hope your piston rings are not all gunked up, I let mine go too far before I figured this out and my rings were nasty with oil build up.

you were right ron, base plate to head interface as a culprit to oil consumption without even looking at the car...
