Default Rear Shock Spacer

I have a clunking coming from the left rear of my Sled and a mechanics said the upper mounting bolt is loose. I looked at it and there isnt a way to tighten it any more without crushing the mounting bracket. Is the supposed to be a spacer of some kind at the top on the mounting bolt? There seems to be about a 1/2" of slack between the bracket and the top eye of the shock for it to bump around. Is something missing here or did the previous owner install the wrong shocks? Thanks!

Default shock

take the tire off the right side and duplicate that shock mount on the left. If it takes washers, so be it.

Ive got the same noise coming from my 96 left rear as well..
havent had the chance to look up under, but its drivin me crazy,
So im thinking if im having the same problem why wouldnt you put the spacers or washers on the top side of mount then you wouldnt
have to do the other side..im not sure i haventy looked to see what kinda of room ther isl. But Why is there slack to start with it didnt
make noise before?

The left side eyelet bushing is decidedly more worn than the right side which does not have any washers or spacers either. I have seen spacers that have a washer welded to a roll pin which would hold the shock tight to one side of the mounting bracket. If the roll pin/washer assembly was needed, it would mean the eyelet bushing would be too large giving it the slack needed to bump around. The previous owner let anybody work on this car much to its and his negative. He was outrightly ripped off on valve cover gaskets not done but charged for and these are the same folks who put the rear shocks on. To me, the rear shocks look like something that would go on a passenger car, not a performance vehicle. I just need a couple of folks to look and see if they have a spacer/washer assembly on the shock mount bolt or does the shock fill up the mounting bracket altogether. The top bracket can be viewed by looking under the rear wheel at the back of the car. Other than the clunking, they seem to be ok. At $60 and up, I dont want to replace them unless I need to. Thanks for your comments.
