Auto box loses drive
I've got a 1990 C4 L98 with Auto box.
Few days ago the speedo stopped reading, just remains on '0 mph'. However the car was still driving fine so I figured I'd fix it as soon as I could get the time.
Today I used the car and having driven a few miles with no problems I suddenly lost all drive, engine just free reving as though in neutral. Stopped the car, put it into park then back into drive and it started working ok again untill it was changing into 3rd and it lost drive again. Manualy selected 2nd and it was fine but if it tries to go to third it always loses drive.
Could this be related to the speedo problem? Or is there another gremlin lurking in my car? God knows I find enough of them LOL

Since it will manually shift from 1st to 2nd and you have no third, it sounds like you lost the 3/4 clutch pack.
Had the same thing happen to me on my plow truck.
Time for a rebuild.
(And yes. They do go suddenly)
Not sure what the problem with the speedo is, other than maybe a bad sensor.
